Plottin & Schemin

Sisters Amber Hodson & Tami Jo Benson are Rookie Rebelles, also new to off-roading and rally competitions! But they are no strangers to reading each other’s minds and crafting all kinds of shenanigans. Watch them on the rally to find out which sister is plottin’ and which one is schemin’!

Team #136, Plottin’ & Schemin’ is sponsored by The Outspring, a discovery platform of outdoor brands made for and by women. Products, services, experiences and stories for women who love to get outside. After registering for the Rebelle Rally, Tami Jo saw the need for greater visibility and representation of women-owned brands across all aspects of the outdoor industry. The Outspring officially launches with the start of the 2022 Rebelle Rally!

I love a project that requires learning new skills or trying out power tools. I enjoy cultivating relationships and believe in the restorative and connecting power of the outdoors, especially in a group of women.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?

I first saw the Rebelle in 2016 and was hooked by the adventure of it all. The epic landscapes, the technical demands and pursuing the intense challenges in the company of amazing women. Fast forward to 2022 - I am ready to commit time and resources to my own personal transformation.

Who, or what, inspires you most?

Mother Nature! A walk in the woods or a visit to the ocean brings about greater clarity and creativity when considering big and small aspects of my life.

Top three favorite podcasts / books / shows

I love the movie Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. It’s existential, clever, playful and a complicated story about identity and relationships.
Braving the Wilderness by Brené Brown is a thoughtful framework on navigating the complexities of the human experience. There is a lifetime of work in those pages.
Women Who Run With The Wolves by Clarissa Plinkola Esteś is a fascinating retelling of the fairy tales and archetypal stories about women. It help me see the artificial ways we are socialized and invited a paradigm shift on how to be in the world.

Greatest adventure to date?

During the summer of 2020, I ventured out from the demands of raising 4 teenagers and embarked on a 7700-mile solo road trip for 11 weeks. It was a remarkable journey of the soul, enabling personal transformation and an opportunity to listen to my inner voice. I backpacked with a stranger. I made upcycled gifts for strangers with my sewing machine. I cultivated a confidence in being alone in the woods.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?

Discovering new people and places is when I am the most inspired and alive. Thich Nhat Hanh talked about walking as if your feet are kissing the earth - I find that feeling most when I am exploring.
