October 13th, 2024 (Ash Springs, NV)
Today marked DAY 2 of the competition, which covered 282 kilometers and is the first of two Marathon Legs. Teams will camp out away from the amenities of basecamp, including mechanics and fuel. Teams departed Basecamp 1 and began the day with an on-time enduro, climbing into forested mountains before dropping into the expansive valleys Nevada is known for, giving competitors time for “Hero” style driving the area is known for. This is the first time the Rebelle Rally has stayed on the east side of Area 51, taking competitors through the Basin and Range National Monument.
Teams faced a strategic choice: follow the regular, longer route around Water Gap and skirt the Golden Gate Mountains, or tackle the more difficult X routes through Murphy Gap, climbing just below Mt. Irish for more challenging black diamond checkpoints. The final section of the day led teams into the Joshua trees before reaching their camping area for the night. Teams who remain focused and manage their time effectively will be rewarded with successful navigation through this challenging rally section.
While competitors won’t know their scores until they reach Basecamp 2 tomorrow, our scoring team showed that Team #204 MtnSubi (Carey Lando/Andrea Shaffer) held on to their lead again today in the X-Cross® class with Team #200 (Melissa Clark/Kathryn Reinhardt) close on their heels. The BMW Team #205 of Rebecca Donaghe and Syndiely Wade have been staying consistent and rounded out the top three after today’s competition.
For the 4×4 class, Team #150 Desert Roots (Shelby Hall/Rori Lewis) ended up on top at the end of DAY 2, finishing two points ahead of the current overall leaders, Team #129 4xEventures (Nena Barlow/Teralin Petereit). Team #188 Trail Hustle (Laura Wanlass/Penny Dale) ended the day in third place to make a big jump in the overall standings and keep the competitive pressure on all the leaders vying for the top position.
