This year, they’re back with renewed energy and new goals. Their journey began when Marie, prompted by a wake-up call in her life, decided to turn a long-held dream into reality. Alongside Hanna, her brother’s girlfriend and dear friend, she signed up for the Rebelle Rally. Together, they brought Bernard, Marie’s 2001 Land Rover Discovery 2, out of retirement and into the spotlight.
Their first sponsor was John Gadd at Union Jack 4×4, and from there, they upgraded Bernard with everything he could possibly need. Thanks to the work of the Union Jack 4×4 team, the Discovery 2 now has a 2-inch lift, OME shocks, an ARB snorkel and pre-cleaner, and a center differential lock. Additional sponsor-provided upgrades include an aluminum cooling system kit from Carrs 4×4, Pirelli Scorpion® tires (automatically entering them into the Scorpion Tire Challenge), cargo space XL upper shelf and tailgate table from Golden Rovers, and most importantly, Bernard’s name on the hood, so everyone knows his name!
Marie and Hanna will be competing for the 2nd year and have been counting down the days to return to the finish line as seasoned Rebelles. The teammates loved the highs and the lows that the Rebelle competition brought to the team. For 2024, they’ve discussed their new goals and plan to challenge themselves even more. They can’t wait to return to the gorgeous rally scenery and catch up with all the amazing Rebelles.
These friends haven’t just bonded as teammates; they’re practically family. Hanna is dating Marie’s brother, so they get to see each other even when not training. However, one of their favorite topics to discuss is the Rebelle. “The Rebelle has given us a chance to really get to know each other outside of our normal relationship,” shared Marie and Hanna. “What better way to create a bond with someone than to be in a confined space in a fairly high-stress situation with no phone and no GPS?”
Their number one piece of advice for first-time teams is never to drive faster than you can see, something every good Rebelle must remember. Watch for Bernard, the 2001 Land Rover Discovery 2, who will be competing with Marie and Hanna at the Rebelle Rally this October.
